In today’s economy it seems that most of us have less money and more month, and there is no sign of this changing. A large part of most people’s home expenses is the utility bill. Rates have risen regularly in the most parts of the country. There are ways to reduce the cost of you homes utility usage. One effective way to do this is to do solar do it yourself projects.

Solar do it yourself projects can help reduce your dependency on the utility company. This can be accomplished relatively easy. In fact saving money with a solar project may be easier than earning it. You work hard for your money and like most people you are probably tired of throwing it out the window with the power bill.

Pre-constructed solar panels are a great way of harnessing the sun’s rays and converting it to power. While these units are effective they are not necessarily affordable. The high price of installing solar units can be deterrence to switching to solar power. The good news kit that the benefits of these solar panels can be realized without the associated cost.

A solar project can be a great way to utilize solar power without the cost. These projects are relatively easy. The ease of construction and the low construction costs mean that these projects provide a rapid return on investment, which is important considering the entire purpose of this project is to keep more money in your wallet.

There are multiple solar do it yourself guides that will walk you through the process of purchasing thee necessary materials and then erecting the project and finally installing it in your home. You should look for a guide that is well written and easy to follow. It is also a good idea to find a guide that offers video instruction along with written instruction and blue prints. They should also offer you support via the phone or internet.

Solar power homes are mushrooming up everywhere in the US and there will be even more Americans whose homes are going to be powered by solar energy. The proper use of such energy really requires finding the right balance between the most essential techniques in energy conservation and generating sufficient energy to help you live comfortably.

One of the most compelling reasons to go for solar power homes is that you will be able to generate enough energy for which the costs will be minimal. Of course you should also ensure that the home is properly insulated and this means insulating the floors and walls as well as ceilings.

Remember that the more you insulate your home the better it will be in terms of energy conservation and comfort. The right kind of insulation does two thing well which is to keep heat in the home and also out of the home (in the summer).

Some other important considerations that you need to address include picking a lot where there is sufficient exposure to the sun and wind as this helps to produce energy with least amount of bother.

If you are living in areas where the weather is rather cold you need to ensure that summer windows are placed on the south side of the home and with very few facing North or West or even East. The windows should be designed in a manner that they do not take up more than roughly twelve percent of the square footage in your home.

On the other hand if you are living in warmer climates then the windows should be facing to the north and the patios should be covered with overhangs so as to prevent the sun from warming up your home more than is necessary. It is also important that you create a mudroom to prevent escape of air from the home or even to prevent air from invading the home.

When it comes to DIY power sources, the possibilities are endless. People have been coming up with their own sources for power for centuries. Wind, sunlight, and water are the common ways that people get power from nature. The following examples describe a little bit about each type of power source.

Windmills- These range in all sizes and have a variety of purposes. There are mills that convert the wind’s energy into power to grind grains. Other versions are used to power sawmills, hammermills, papermills, and even for pumping water out of the ground. Some of the earliest windmills were invented in Persia in the ninth century. These ancient versions were constructed from six to twelve sails that were made from cloth. Today these creations are made from wood, metal, and even types of plastic. Most windmills used today are used to generate power for homes.

Solar Power- This technique hasn’t been around nearly as long as wind power, but it is gaining popularity. While this is a highly desired power source for sunny locations, it is still quite expensive to convert to using it.

There are two kinds of ways to harness this power; through photovoltaics and concentrating solar power. Photovoltaics converts solar radiation into DC or direct current power. Production of this type of power has been doubling yearly since it began in 2002. As for concentrated solar power, or CSP, this requires the use of mirrors and lenses for tracking sunlight. This sunlight can be used as a heat source for a power plant or concentrated onto surfaces that use photovoltaics. CSP is said to have been used in ancient China, however, it was used in 1866 to make steam for the first solar steam engine.

Hydropower- This might be the one source of power that isn’t usable by everyone in a do-it-yourself fashion, unless they have access to a large source of water. With this process, power is produced by the energy of moving water.

Large cities use this type of power to run commercial buildings, as well as residential dwellings. It can also be sued for operating machines, such as lifts, sawmills, dock cranes, and watermills. Water wheels and mills have been used in India for hundreds of years. In Rome, water was used to power the mills for grinding grain, sawing timber, and cutting stones.

When determining which DIY power source you’d like to try to harness, keep in mind what you have available to use. For instance, wanting to create your own hydropower source when living in the desert might not be a feasible choice. There are plenty of plans available online for creating any type of creation you can dream up, in order to harness these types of energy produced by nature.

Also, check out my other guide on cheap living and generation electricity

By: Ryan Narendra

Using solar energy to power everything from a small light to an entire house has been the goal for decades. Many people have begun building newer houses with solar panels already incorporated into them. There are some older homes where part or all of the house’s energy has been switched from the grid to solar panels. One of the newest inventions are roof shingles solar panels. These look like shingles, but are actually miniature solar panels.

This innovative design allows for tiny solar panels to be placed right alongside asphalt shingles. These cost anywhere from 10 to 15 percent less to install than the traditional solar panels. Solar shingles are even quicker to install than larger solar panels, due to their size and location. Another name for these miniature panels are phototvoltaic cells. There are a few different varieties of solar shingles available today.

Some solar shingles are the size of actual shingles and they will set in the place of a few asphalt shingles, therefore forming a strip of small solar shingles. There are some shingles that are the actual size of an individual asphalt shingle and contain many silicon solar cells in them. The newest version of the solar shingle looks and even flexes like an asphalt shingle by using ultra thin film solar cell technology.

These sun absorbing shingles are usually able to be stapled directly to the roofing cloth, just like a traditional shingle. However, there are some solar shingles that require a bit different mounting instructions, especially the kind that are mixed in with the asphalt shingles. While these may be able to be dispersed among the asphalt shingles, they usually have a deep purplish-blue color to them. This is sometimes a concern for people who want all their shingles to match in color.

Many homeowners find that the size of these solar shingles is much more aesthetically pleasing than the traditional solar panels. The small design of these shingles is easier to blend into the roof. While these are smaller than traditional panels, they still have to be converted from DC to AC. Houses use alternating current to power lights, appliances, etc, but solar panels and shingles produce power in direct current, hence the need for the conversion.

Assembly of houses in larger cities, especially areas where there is an ample amount of sunlight, is including roof shingles solar panels in the design. While this may bump up the price of the house a bit, it is well worth the amount of energy and money that will be saved in the future. These houses are also much more ecologically friendly than traditional houses.

Solar silicon cells are the device that converts light into electrical energy. These cells are coated with a silicone which serves as a semiconductor for absorbing the light. When grouped together these cells appear similar to something you have seen in a microscope in your high school chemistry class.

Solar silicon cells when grouped together are referred to as modules. These modules are interconnected to form an array that is responsible for producing the voltage of electricity that is desired. These cells are contained behind a panel of glass that attracts the sunlight to these cells, which in turn generate the electrical power.

This process is relatively easy to understand, and can be easily created using the proper materials and step by step instructions. With the proper instructions and materials you can construct and connect a solar panel to your homes roof in a single afternoon. These panels when grouped together can help to substantially reduce your power bill. You can use the system to assist with your electrical power, or you could hook it up to a single appliance such as your hot water heater.

It helps to have a better understanding of how this system works if you are planning to utilize one for your home. Since silicon is a conductor of electricity it makes the perfect material for solar cells. Solar cells consist of a thin layer of silicon that allows the cost to be kept down. The more layers of this film the more efficient these panels are.

The use of layers of silicon reduces the cost of using silicone and provide a light weight, flexible product. There are some solar panels that use polycrystalline and amorphous silicon cells that further reduce the cost of solar panels. It is important to know that not all solar silicon cells produce the same amount of efficiency. There are some cells that only provide 15 percent efficiency while there are others that are being designed to provide better than 40 percent efficiency.

Our fossil fuel reserves are failing and no one knows how long the oil will be around. Some experts say oil will be gone in a few decades. It makes no sense to sit and wait for someone else to rescue you so using alternative power solar wind and others will start the trend for a new way of living. There are plenty of reasons to choose another alternative of energy:

Our environment has been seriously damages from fossil fuels. In 2002, scientists concluded that in the next decade we will see a drastic change in our weather. Oceans will rise from the melting of the glaciers, drastic events of the weather, and droughts in the inlands. Every individual has their own home, however we all share one home, our planet, and we need to care for it.

Using fossil fuels are damaging to people, our crops, our animals and more. Air pollution is being contaminated by fossil fuels. Some pollutants caused by fossil fuel are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons. Power plants cause nitrogen oxide and cars are the main cause of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. These pollutants may cause headaches, respiratory infections, and pneumonia, among other problems. Some illnesses don’t appear until many years later.

Fossil fuel damages our waters and our land also. Unintentional but severely damaging is oil spills, which results in the loss of animals and plants. The ashes from coal mining mixed with water (as it washed through these mines) will form acid, which washed into the ocean and affects the land also.

Thermal pollution is also a problem. Fossil fuel burning takes place during the electricity-generation process and this produces heat energy. A lot of this energy is released in the environment and water. Although heated air is not an issue, heated water is and can cause problems for our aquatic ecosystem. Take matters in your own hand and change how you power your own home. Make a change, starting with you and your home. Alternative power solar wind and other alternatives can help turn around our planet before it is too late.

It has been a good twenty years, or so, since the advent of solar energy conversion, but it wasn’t until very recently that this technology has started to really work its way into commonality. Maybe the recent energy crisis has a lot to do with it, as many people are not only concerned about the availability of oil and fuel, but at what cost they will be available. Some people are simply concerned about the pollutant properties of petroleum-based energy products. This is why power solar energy has really started to take off, especially in domestic use, where the energy requirements are much smaller than large industries that depend on electricity to power their equipment.

To make your own solar converter, you only need a few simple items that are very easy to obtain. First of all, of course, you need a solar panel. A decent 16 volt panel costs around $100 and is widely available at RV and marine supply stores, specialty battery stores, and, obviously, online.

It is also probably wise for you to get a rechargeable battery too, which you can use to store the solar energy you capture when you don’t want to use the devices in question.

This makes the apparatus you are building highly effective in emergency situations. A good 12 volt lead or gel battery is all you will need for most small machines, and can run you up a minimal $60.

You will also need a volt meter and a DC input which you can use to plug in some of your devices. It is highly recommended that you also get an AC converter which will allow you to access almost every small machine in your home. All together these will cost you around 50, but you will also need the wires to connect everything, and you might want to build a box or a housing unit for your power solar energy converter.

The ancient Chinese knew the importance of incorporating the outside with the inside; they realized that the interior of a home should contain as much sunlight as possible. There are measures in modern architecture that make this possible. Skylights have long been used for bringing more sunlight into a home. There are some disadvantages of a standard sunlight. Many of these disadvantages are addressed with the use of a solar tube.

Sunlight’s have been considered a great addition to any home for years, but there are some aspects of a traditional skylight that do not make them the ideal way to bring sunlight into a home. A solar tube is designed to provide additional benefits over a standard skylight. While both styles of skylights reduce the amount of electrical light needed to illuminate a space, a tube does it more proficiently.

One of the primary disadvantages of a skylight is that they tend to be difficult to install. The primary reason for this is the fact that they require a large amount of roof real estate. Meaning that you must have the correct roof are to make it possible to install these.

Standard sunlight’s also require the right angel of the sun and no clouds in the sky for them to work properly. If it is cloudy or there is not the ideal angle between the sun and the skylight then the light will not be brought into the home through the light. Consequently many people find standard sunlight s to not be cost effective.

solar tube has been engineered in a manner that utilizes the rays of the sun regardless of the angle of the sun and also they require very little space on the roof. These tubes can be used in tough to get at locations. The use of mirror and lenses provides the ability to use the sun despite the conditions regarding clouds, roof angles, and allotted space.

By: Ryan Narendra

What exactly is solar green, is it a new shade of paint that you should put on your living or bedroom walls, or is it the new color of money? Well in fact it is a new color for your home and can be the color of money. You see solar green is actually the color of success.

When you covert your home to solar power you are doing several things. You are covering your house with a new system that provides it with power; consequently your entire home is now eco-friendly or ‘green’. Not only will your homes electrical power be generated from the solar panels on your roof but it will also mean that you will drastically reduce the amount of power your dependent on the utility company for.

By reducing your dependency on the utility company you will dramatically reduce the amount of money you spend on your power bills. Which will mean there is more money in your wallet for other things and therefore your money is suddenly greener. This savings will allow you to do things you may n to have been able to do.

As has been expressed your home is greener since it is less dependent on other power sources. The less energy you use the less the effect on the environment and the planet. If you and your neighbors got into the solar energy game, then you would all be having a profound effect on the planet.

This can be accomplished extremely easily. One afternoon can be spent building a solar panel system for your home and provide you with an instant reduction in the cost of utilities your home is using. This project will build for you a solar green, and put more green back into your wallet. Saving money is just one of the great benefits of going green.

The effect that we as humans have on the planet has been detrimental and as result there is a major emphasis placed on finding measures to reduce the impact that the human race has on the earth. You are probably very aware of all the emphasis that has been placed on the earth recently. You may recycle and wonder how you can get involved in being greener friendly. It is actually possible to convert your home into your own personal green system.

We are causing our planet to suffer from many serious problems we have the ability to reduce the pain that is being inflicted on the planet. The main reason for these problems has been the way that people use energy. We are being greedy, but it is not too late to change our ways.

We do have the ability to heal the planet and reduce the amount of energy we use. Solar energy is one of the optimum ways of reducing the effect that we have on the planet.

While you may think that you are limited in how you can help you will be surprised to find out that your home can have a big impact on the environment. Building a solar panel system o your home reduces your dependence on the energy that is generated by the utility company. This will also reduce the amount of your utility bills drastically.

You may have heard that solar panels are expensive and that it takes time for you to realize the benefit of your investment. This simply is not true. It is possible to build your own solar panels and install them on your roof. This project will take only a few hours and will be easily installed on your roof. There are several sources for easy to follow step by step instructions. This simple project will reduce your utility bills and will help you to create your own green system.
